The Pesticide Safety Education Program at NC State University is offering an online exam preparation course for those seeking initial certification in Forest Pest Management (FPM). The course consists of eight self-paced modules derived from the FPM manual, and is a companion to the manual “Forest Pest Management: A Pesticide Applicator Certification Manual for Participating States in the Southeast,” which is sold separately and is available for purchase by visiting the Pesticide Safety Education homepage and choosing "Pesticide Manuals - Online Ordering" from the navigation pane.
To access the course, follow the registration directions below. The cost for the course is $45, and is payable through the Extension Foundation website at the time of purchase.
This course is preparatory only. To become certified in FPM in North Carolina, you must pass the FPM pesticide applicator certification exam, which is based on the FPM manual. For complete certification requirements, or to register to take the FPM and other certifying exams, go to the NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) website.
NOTE: This course is designed for those wanting to become licensed to apply pesticides to forest systems in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. However, certification and licensing procedures are provided for North Carolina only. Check the individual states’ websites for specific certification and licensing requirements for other states. Christmas tree producers are certified as private pesticide applicators and pass an exam based on a different manual.
